Living in Quincy

Quincy sits just south of Boston on Quincy Bay. It is a full-service city with its own downtown, waterfront neighborhoods and a long history. It is known as the City of Presidents: John Adams and John Quincy Adams were both born here, and Adams National Historical Park preserves their birthplaces and the family home.

Each neighborhood has its own feel. Wollaston and North Quincy are close to the train and the beach. Squantum, Houghs Neck and Adams Shore sit near the water. Quincy Center, West Quincy and Quincy Point offer more urban and mixed options.

Homes you will find

  • Single-family homes, from older colonials and capes to waterfront cottages
  • Two-family homes, popular with owner-occupant buyers
  • Condos in converted homes, older buildings and newer developments near Quincy Center and Marina Bay

Getting around

Quincy has four Red Line stations on the Braintree branch: North Quincy, Wollaston, Quincy Center and Quincy Adams. Quincy Center is also a commuter rail stop for the Greenbush, Kingston and Fall River/New Bedford lines. Drivers use I-93 and Route 3, and Route 3A runs along the coast.

Parks, beaches and everyday life

Wollaston Beach, part of the state’s Quincy Shore Reservation, stretches about 2.3 miles along Quincy Shore Drive and is the largest public beach in Boston Harbor. The city also has a public library system, local parks, marinas and a busy dining scene in Quincy Center and Wollaston. Quincy runs its own public school system, and families can look up school details directly with Quincy Public Schools.

Who Quincy suits

Quincy is a good fit for commuters who want the Red Line without Boston prices, first-time buyers looking at condos and two-families, and anyone who wants to live near the ocean. Investors also look at Quincy for its steady rental demand near transit.
