Getting around from Chelsea

  • Silver Line SL3: a bus rapid transit route that started in April 2018. It stops at Chelsea, Bellingham Square, Box District and Eastern Avenue, then runs to Airport station on the Blue Line and on to South Station on the Red Line.
  • Commuter Rail: the Newburyport/Rockport Line stops at Chelsea station, which opened in November 2021 next to the SL3 Chelsea stop.
  • By car: the Tobin Bridge carries U.S. Route 1 over the Mystic River between Chelsea and Charlestown. It uses all-electronic tolls.

Logan Airport is reachable on the SL3 through Airport station. When you tour a home, check the walk to the nearest stop and the parking rules on that street.

Types of homes in Chelsea

  • Condos: in converted older houses and in newer buildings.
  • 2- and 3-family homes: including classic triple-deckers. Many buyers live in one unit and rent the others.
  • Single-family homes: set an alert so you see new ones the day they list.

Buying a condo with FHA? The building needs FHA approval, or the unit needs a Single-Unit Approval. Ask early, since it can affect your loan choice.

Taxes and buyer help in Chelsea
